I’ve reworked my website of twelve years, andnowis.com. It had devolved from a space to talk about the everyday life of a Christian–a diary essentially–into a mix of random poetry and political rants with a rope whip in hand vibe.
Revealingly, they made me giddy to write, and reread. That voice comes way too naturally to me, so I’m backing off for a bit.
So this site is back to basics, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
A little about me. I’m 75, living in the town I was born in and left at 16. Things went bad. Back to shush up chatty tombs.
A little about the way I write. All at one sitting, always. I don’t/can’t/won’t think in larger pieces. So a diary-no let’s change that to journal right now–is an appealing format for my ADHD-like process.
What else? I have a rhetorical peeve about the word, creative. I cringe when I hear any human being anywhere talk about being ‘a creative person’. A thousand times No. There is, and upon reflection can only be, One Creator. Human beings can be exquisite artists and artisans, at least by the lights of agreed opinion, but the highest level of achievement must always be the penultimate one. There are many great expressive artists, but only one Creative one.
Uh oh. Tipping into rant mode. Really gonna have to watch that.
Today, Monday August 31st is my first post. And as was the case twelve years ago, really, I got nothin’.
So going to start with an idea that came to me while sitting on a stone wall near my house. I sit there when I smoke two cigarettes a day, Camel Red’s, one in the morning, one at dusk if I can manage, always with a cup of Peet’s Major Dickson blend coffee in a paper cup. Two a day since last Thanksgiving, so I think I’ve solved the habit risk by keeping consumption linked to pleasure. I can keep the pleasure if I don’t catch the habit. Moderation is a beautiful thing.
Also, three tokes of cannabis with the cigarettes and coffee.
Some Christians find the notion that I smoke cannabis daily discredits my testimony, but I’ll let my words stand on their own. I mention it only as disclosure.
Which may make the transition to the first topic that came to me today seem a tad sus. No paisley colored soft focused faded out accompanied the first thought on the stone wall.
These are the notes I jotted down before filling in the background stuff you just read.
The very idea of Christ puts human beings to scale within an infinite Universe.
Consciousness may contemplate the human position in both astronomical and sub atomic scales and offer little encouragement to any individual’s self aware mind.
Christ puts human consciousness through an hourglass
We concentrate on Him in our pathetic vulnerability and pass through to a view of our place in the Universe that is the ‘peace that surpasses understanding’
The Christ is the Northstar for human evolution, of the body and of the soul.
This is an idea of extra Biblical imagination about the size of God, in particular the Savior, that I’m sure has been expressed in orthodox Christology through the ages, with appropriate citations and exegesis, often in soaring inspired exaltation.
There is nothing new under His sun.
Glad to get this site started again. Waited for the impulse, which I trust. Back tomorrow.
